What I am looking at is "Early Virginia Families Along the James River Thier
Deep Roots and Tangled Branches" Henrico County --Goochland County Virginia"
compioled by Louise Pledge Heath Foley Volume I Patent Book Number 2 page
12. This was sent to me by a fellow Cantrell researcher trying -to help me
find the link between the Virginia Cantrell's Henry and William to our
Richard of Pennsylvania. it is referring to
"Stephen Hamelin, 1250acs. Chas. City Co.,26 Oct.1650,page 226.
Lyeing --head of Weyonoke, bounded S. upon the heads of Wionoke, E. upon
Mat---(or Matsrwea ?) Cr. & land of Mr. Cantrell, W. towards old mans Cr.
Queens Cr. Due sd. Hamblin for transactions of 25 pers:"
The list continues with names. I am assuming that since it is in the Patens
book that Lands were Patented to persons and or bought and sold as this was
after the times of major conflicts with the Native American's. Having seen
where some services were paid off in Tabacco for acts of aid rendered the
Colony at the times of Conflicts with the Native American's.
Henry and William were in the Tabacco business and it is well documented but
we have never found the link or the land documents to sustain this type of
enterprise. The information was found in a genealogical Library in the book
mentioned above. My question again is where can these books be obtained? I
know of a person that purchased Northumberland County Order Books though
quiet costly has provided a wealth of information to thier research.
