Sharon:
Please tell me more. This is definitely my ancestor through his son John
B. Young.
Here's the information I have:
Moses Young, born c1800, appears in the 1850 Federal Census of McMinn
County, TN with wife, Cynthia, and daughters Sarah (14), Martha (12), and
Mary (10). From other records, it appears that "Martha" was "Martin"
instead. Probable census 1840 Weakly County, page 277. In a telephone
conversation with Warren Cantrell on 4 July 1994, I was told that "Moses &
Cynthia moved their family to Missouri, Webster or Wright County. With them
went the older children Terrell and Elizabeth, who married a Cook. Terrell
served in the Civil War -- under the name of Terrell Cantrell. Wonder why
he used Cantrell rather than Young. Moses died in Missouri. Cynthia may
have died along the way or even in
McMinn County, Tennessee, before the family left for Missouri. There are a
large number of descendents from Terrell & Elizabeth in Missouri."
Moses married Cynthia Cantrell in South Carolina in 1824. Marriage implied
by probate records, Spartanburg County, SC. See original loose probate
papers, file 796. Cynthia was born c1825 in Spartanburg County, SC. She
was the daughter of John M. "Miller John" Cantrell and Elizabeth Cantrell
(first cousins).
Moses & Cynthia were parents to:
* Terrell Young, b 1825 in SC; m Maranda J. Manery 24 Jul 1845 in McMinn
County, TN
* Jane Young, b 1826 in Spartanburg County, SC; m Samuel Cook 25 Mar 1848
in McMinn County, TN
* John B. Young, b 18 Nov 1827 in TN, d 3 Sep 1899 in Marion County, AL;
married Elisabeth Jane Cantrell 1850 in Marion County, AL. -- my ancestor,
more about these folks later.
* Elizabeth Irene Young, b 25 Mar 1830 in Warren County, TN, d 23 Nov 1898
in Marion County, AL; married John Harrell Cantrell.
* Sarah Young, b c1836
* Martin V. Young, b 1 Aug 1839 in McMinn County, TN, d 14 Jun 1895;
married Sarah E. Cook 5 May 1866 in Webster County, MO
* Mary Ann Young, b c1840
This may not be complete or entirely correct. I got much of it from other
researchers and have not confirmed it all for myself. I do have a great
deal of information on the descendants of John B. Young and Elisabeth Jane
Cantrell. Elisabeth was the daughter of Berry Cantrell, the brother of
Cynthia Cantrell, thus making John B. Young and Elisabeth Cantrell first
cousins. Interestingly, Elizabeth Irene "Rena" Young married Elisabeth
Cantrell's brother John Harrell Cantrell. Whew! Interesting family. John
B. Young appears in the 1850 Marion County Census in the household of Berry
Cantrell.
I really would like to have more information on Moses and the other Young
children. Please share what you have. I'll post a separate note with
information on John B. Young and Elisabeth Jane Cantrell.

Elsi
