Looking for any information on Cole CANTRELL m. Martha Phillips before 1869.
They had 3 children, John William (Will) CANTRELL b ca 1869, Savilla Tammie
CANTRELL b ca 1871, and another child (probably not his, though it bears his
name) Della CANTRELL b ca 1884.
I have no marriage record.
In 1880 Pontotoc County, Mississippi Census, we find:
Beat 3, page 34
SANDERS, James w m 57 farmer AL KY TN
, Mary w f 44 AL NC NC
, William w m 22 farmer son
, John W. w m 19 farmer son
, Elvira (Elmira?) w f 18 daughter
, Emma w f 7 daughter
CANTRELL, Martha w f 27 MS AL GA
Boxes checked for Widowed/Divorced AND Orphan
, John w m 11 orphan AL AL MS
, Savilla w f 9 orphan AL AL MS
In 1900 Pontotoc County, Mississippi Census,
Randolph & Robbs Townships, City of Robbs
CANTRELL, Martha w f b. May 1844
{living with her daughter & son-in-law William T. MILLER & Tammie
CANTRELL MILLER. On this census, she lists herself as _married_ for 38
years, not widowed/divorced.}
It's apparent that Martha and Cole CANTRELL lived in Alabama when first two
children were born and that she is in Mississippi alone after 1880. The
family story goes that she left him in Alabama and walked back to
Mississippi with her two young children.
I would appreciate any info on Cole CANTRELL/ marriage to Martha PHILLIPS/
his parents/ land holding or census info in Alabama or elsewhere. Thanks!
