CANTRALL INQUEST SET; RITES TODAY
Coroner Ernest Dye yesterday set 10:30 o'clock Monday morning as the time for
holding an inquest in the case of Alvin Wesley Cantrall, 54, who died
suddenly Thursday morning at his home, 511 Maple Avenue.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the residence,
Rev. J. W. Merrill, pastor of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be made in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The Jennings Auto Sales Company, where Mr. Cantrall had been shop foreman for
about ten years, will be closed from 2 until 4 o'clock this afternoon as a
mark of respect.

A. W. CANTRALL DEATH BLAMED ON MONOXIDE
Alvin Wesley Cantrall, shop foreman at a local automobile firm for the last
ten years, came to his death as a result of carbon monoxide gas poisoning
suffered January 18, according to a verdict returned yesterday by a coroner's jury.
Cantrall died suddenly last Thursday morning while sitting at the breakfast
table at his home, 511 Maple Street.

Carrie VanMeter
Mrs. Carrie VanMeter, 101, of Williamsville, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday at
Lewis Memorial Christian Village.
Born in Menard County, she is the daughter of Henry and Fannie Cantrall
Graham. Mrs. VanMeter was a member of the Springfield Chapter DAR, Williamsville
United Methodist Church, Springfield Woman's Club, Springfield Garden Club, and
a charter member of the Cantrall Woman's Club. Preceding her in death were
her husband, W. H. VanMeter, and one grandson, Col. Jo Melvin VanMeter.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Harwood of Springfield; one
son, Jo VanMeter of Dixon; and one granddaughter.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mott and Henning Funeral Home,
Athens, with the Rev. David A. Ashbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Fancy Creek
Cemetery, Williamsville.
