ARMINTA FULTON, 95, DIES; CULVER COMMUNITY RESIDENT DIED AT 3:45 P.M. MONDAY
Mrs. Arminta Fulton, 95, respected long-time resident of the Culver Community, died at the
Americana Nursing Home, Springfield at 3:45 p.m. Monday, where she had been a patient for
several months.
She was a daughter of Henry and Fannie Cantrall Graham.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Fannie Kincaid, of Athens; one son, Amond Fulton, of New
Holland; one granddaughter, Mrs. Ray Page, of Springfield; one grandson, William Fulton,
of East Peoria; four great grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Carrie Van Meter, of
Williamsville.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Mott and Son Funeral Home, with the Rev.
Kyle Shown officiating. Burial was made in Indian Point Cemetery.

Death of B. F. Holland
After an illness of two days, Benjamin Franklin Holland, aged 75 years, 2 months, and 10
days, died at his home in Athens on Tuesday, September 18, 1917. His death was due to a
complication of diseases.
Mr. Holland was a resident of Athens for fifteen years. His wife died five years ago. He
is survived by two sons, Thomas G. Holland of Ketley, West Va., and E. G. Holland of
Springfield. He also has a sister who lives at Kingfisher, Okla., and a half-sister in
Kansas City.

MARIA BRITTIN, 87, DIES; LIFETIME ATHENS RESIDENT
Maria Brittin, 87, a lifelong resident of this community, passed away at the Memorial
hospital this Thursday morning at 5:30, where she had been a patient since Tuesday.
Mrs. Brittin had been in gradually failing health over a period of months due to
infirmities of age.
She was born in Athens November 1, 1865, the daughter of the late James Madison England
and Mary Ann Mott.
Her husband, the late Dr. Albert Leslie Brittin, passed away in October 1930.
The remains were removed to the Mott and Son Funeral Home where burial arrangements are
being completed.

CANTERBURY - Died, Saturday, Oct. 6, at 3 p.m. at his home in Cantrall, Mr. John G.
Canterbury, aged 75 years, 1 month, and 10 days.
He is survived by his widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Joseph Cantrall,
formerly of this city but now of Arapahoe, Neb.; Mrs. John Stevens of Cantrall; M. C.
Canterbury of Chicago; and X. Canterbury of Peoria. Mr. Cantrall was one of the
influential and honored citizens of Sangamon County. He was for many years a leading
member of the Christian Church.
The funeral will occur at 10 o’clock this morning at the Christian church in Cantrall,
Rev. A. P. Cobb of this city conducting the services.

CANTRALL – Died, Jan. 18, at Cantrall, Joshua Cantrall, one of the oldest and most
respected citizens and a life-long subscriber to The Journal. He was universally known
and respected throughout the county and his death will be sincerely mourned by a wide
circle of friends.
The funeral took place yesterday morning, Rev. W. H. McGinnis officiating.

JACOB M. CANTRALL
Funeral services were held for Jacob M. Cantrall, aged 83, who, a coroner’s jury decided,
took his own life by shooting himself with a revolver, were held last Monday afternoon at
Bisch’s mortuary in Springfield at 1:30 o’clock, Rev. C. R. Drussel, pastor of the Elliott
Avenue Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment was made in the Brittin cemetery near Cantrall.

Guy Cantrall
ILLIOPOLIS – Guy Cantrall, 69, of San Pedro, Calif., formerly of Illiopolis, died
Wednesday at San Pedro.
He is survived by his wife, Daisey; two sons, Robert of Louisville, Ky., and Gene of Long
Beach, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Violet Peterson, Springfield; one brother, Wilbur of Los
Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Myra Baldridge, Carlinville; six grandchildren; and one
great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one son, Guy, Jr.
Remains will be received by Pritchett Funeral Home of Illiopolis.
Mr. Cantrall was born in Illiopolis, son of Lev G. and Ella Norred Cantrall, and he was
married to Daisey Atkinson.

Harry N. Warren
Illiopolis, Aug. 22 – Harry N. Warren, 68, a retired farmer of Illiopolis, died at his
residence today.
He was the son of Franklin and Mary Warren and was born on June 1, 1875 at Illiopolis. In
1901 he married the former Eva Irvin. He is survived by his wife, Eva; one daughter, Mrs.
Aldon Hall, Springfield; four sisters, Mrs. Walter Morthland, Mrs. Rose Stice, Mrs. Verna
Mergill, all of Springfield, and Mrs. George Brooks, Monticello; and two brothers,
Clarence Warren, Springfield, and Everett Warren, Buffalo.
Remains were removed to the Pritchett Funeral Home in Illiopolis. Funeral arrangements
are incomplete.

Charles England, of Cantrall, Dies
Charles H. England, 61, a farmer and a lifelong resident of near Cantrall, died at 10:40
a.m. yesterday at his home, three miles south of Cantrall, on the same farm where he was
born and had resided his entire lifetime.
Mr. England, a veteran of World War I, was born July 18, 1886, a son of Henry and Mary
Price England. He was a member of the Cantrall Christian Church.
Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Rena Claypool, Williamsville; Mrs. Clara Grant, Easton;
Mrs. Gladys Flagg, Sherman; and Miss Flora England, Cantrall; one brother, William,
Cantrall; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the Mott and Son Funeral Home, Athens.
Rev. Park Netting will officiate and burial will be in Brittin Cemetery.

Viola R. Mitchell
Mrs. Viola R. Mitchell, 69, of 5 Forrest Ridge, died at 9:38 a.m. Tuesday at Springfield
Community Hospital.
She formerly owned Mitchell’s Market at 1219 W. Ash St., retiring in 1964. Her husband,
Harley, died in 1973. Born in Springfield, Mrs. Mitchell was a member of South Side
Christian Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. R. Thomas (Sally) Whitlock of Springfield; one brother,
Richard Fox of Springfield; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Otken and Mrs. Margaret Reed, both
of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Bisch Memorial Home is in charge of arrangement.
