CANTRALL – Died, Thursday, Sept. 26, at residence of her son, J. S. Cantrall of Cantrall,
in her 87th year, Mrs. Ann Cantrall.
Mrs. Cantrall was born Sept. 29, 1903 in Holston County, Va. Her maiden name was
Patterson. When she was two years old, her parents moved to Adair County, Ky., where she
was married to Thomson Barnett Jan. 19, 1822. They had three children born in Kentucky,
and moved to Illinois, arriving at the Irish Grove in Menard County in the fall of 1829,
where one child was born to them. Her first husband died Dec. 12, 1830, and she was
married to Levi Cantrall, May 26, 1836. She had two children by her last marriage,
Fannie, wife of H. C. Graham, and J. S. Cantrall, with whom she has resided since the
death of her husband, Levi Cantrall, which occurred Feb. 22, 1860. She was a life-long
member of the Presbyterian Church and was loved and respected by all who knew her.
The funeral services will be held at the Christian church in Cantrall today at 2 o’clock
p.m., conducted by Rev. T. D. Logan of Springfield.

ARTHUR W. CANTRALL, 78, DIES SUDDENLY AT HOME HERE LAST SUNDAY
Arthur W. Cantrall, 78, passed away very suddenly at his farm home east of Athens last
Sunday afternoon about 2:30. He was known to suffer from a heart condition and had been
under a doctor’s care for several months and suffered more or less from his ailment at
various times.
“Artie”, as he was referred to by all who knew him, was born, reared, and lived in the
home where passed away his entire lifetime.
He was born November 23, 1876, a son of Henry and Emma Graham Cantrall. After he reached
adult life, he farmed for many years until his retirement a few years ago. He was a
member of the Athens Christian Church.
Surviving are a nephew, Henry Cantrall, Athens; and four nieces, Mrs. Lois Reinders, Mrs.
Hazel Estill, Mrs. Fay Bray, all of Springfield, and Mrs. Jean Wolfe, of California.
The remains were taken to the Mott and Son Funeral Home, where services were held at 2
p.m. Wednesday. Burial was made in Indian Point Cemetery.

MRS. SARAH E. CANTRALL
The death of Mrs. Sarah E. Cantrall occurred at her home in this city, Tuesday morning
March 12, 1929, after several weeks of illness, at the age of 79 years, 2 months, and 15
days.
Sarah E., daughter of the late Joseph B. and Eliza J. Waggoner, was born in Athens,
December 25, 1849. She was married to Jasper H. Cantrall of Athens, July 2, 1868. To
this union five children were born, four of whom survive.
When a young woman, Mrs. Cantrall united with the Athens Christian Church and ever
remained a faithful consistent member.
She is survived by four sons, William H. of Burbank, California; Bertram H. of Petersburg;
Joseph W. of Superior, Wisconsin; and Alfred L. of this city; eighteen grandchildren; and
8 great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Ethel B. McFarland, died December 25, 1917.
Funeral services were held at the Athens Christian Church Wednesday afternoon, March 13,
at 2 o’clock, Rev. Lester R. Gerber officiating.
Interment was made in the Hall Cemetery.

Thos. A. Cantrall dies at ninety-two at Sunny Acres
Thomas A. Cantrall of Athens, a patient at Sunny Acres for some time, died at 3:15 a.m.
Friday, Nov. 3 at the nursing home, at the age of 92.
Mr. Cantrall was born in the Fancy Prairie community on July 3, 1875, a son of Robert H.
and Louise Goff Cantrall, both members of pioneer Menard County families. He married Miss
Sylvia Potter on Sept. 23, 1896, the officiating minister being the late Rev. R. D.
Miller. He and Mrs. Cantrall lived on a farm between Tice and Athens for many years. She
preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 1965, at the age of 85. They quietly observed their
sixty-ninth wedding anniversary in September before her death.
Mr. Cantrall is survived by three sons, Roy and King Cantrall of East Peoria, and Clyde
Cantrall of Athens; two daughters, Mrs. Lula Lott of Athens, and Mrs. Mildred Lee of
Petersburg; one foster daughter, Mrs. Anna Mae Miller of Petersburg; one brother, Luther
Cantrall of Athens; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Cline of Athens and Mrs. Stella Pittman of
Greenview; 11 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great-great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Mott and Son Funeral Home in Athens at 2 o’clock Sunday
afternoon with Rev. Prosper Tournear of the Athens Methodist Church and Rev. A. F. Wirth
of Springfield officiating. Burial was in Hall Cemetery.
