I am new to this web system and am not sure how to offer comments to the
other members, but I will give this a try in regards to Zebulon Cantrell.
I also have a copy of the Carmi G. Cantrell book on Zebulon.
There is another book by Susan C. Christie titled "The Cantrill-Cantrell
Genealogy"
In the Christie book, she identifies the same Zebulon Cantrell with the same
descendants and she says he is the son of Richard Cantri(e)ll of Philadelphia
and Dorothy Jones. Richard Cantrell belonged to the Church of England and
lived in Philadelphia before 1689. He married Dorothy Jones, a Quaker, about
1693. They had the following children:
Mary d. 1695
Joseph b. 1695, Phila, PA
Zebulon b. 1697, Phila, PA
Dorothy b. ?
Joseph and Zebulon were baptized in the Old Swedes Church in Wilmington,
Delaware. This Zebulon has the same descendants as the ones identified in
the Carmi G. Cantrell book. This Zebulon is discussed on page 147 of the
Cristie book. This Zebulon moved to Virginia with his son(s), etc.
It makes it very difficult to try to pin things down. Richard Cantrell did
buy land in Philadelphia so it is a fact that he lived there and Zebulon was
his son. The only question is if the two Zebulons are the same person.
Any comments or thoughts on this are welcome.
