The above was a "quote" from the book "The Cantrell
Family" by Carmi G.
Cantrell. I would like some comments on this book and the researcher
also. There are several things that do not go along with everything,
I THINK I have learned about the CANTRELL Family so far.
Thanks,

Lynn, and all -
When you consider the date of publication, some of these early books are true
masterpieces. The authors had to do everything by letter, in some cases
records were not easily accessible as microfilm hadn't come into use yet, and
much reliance had to be placed on what family members told them. It is easy
to complain about their quality, but I think, instead that we should use them
as road maps. The data about the people living at the same time as the author
stands the greatest chance of being accurate as does that of the author's
closest relatives. The farther away you go from the author in time or in
relationship, the less reliable the data becomes. Even though I think every
fact should be backed by documentary evidence, I'm grateful for these early
trailblazers, who gave us hints and clues for our modern research.
