Just a short note to let you know I have just volunteered to be list
manager for the Cantey List. My name is Robin Langley and I have been
researching the Cantey/Canty name for several years. I have over 45000
names of Cantey/Canty's and there related families. I hope we can make
this a more active list than it has been. There are only 9 people
subscribed to the list but maybe we can grow as people become more
interested in geneology. There are only a few things I hope people will
remember, this list is to help others to learn and to enjoy geneology.
We are all here to help and perhaps get help, with infomation we have.
Please do not criticise others nor ridicule the efforts of others.
There are those who are news to the internet and we want to help them
learn list etiquette. Remeber the first rule is always "If you can't
say anything nice please don't say anything at all." We all make
mistakes so unless you are perfect "gently" inform the offender of the
proper way to do things.
Let's all enjoy geneology and help not hurt.
The first thing we need to do, as there is only 9 people this should not
be hard to do, let's do a Roll Call as to where we are from and what
info we are looking for.
I live in Conway, SC have researched the Cantey family back to 16200 in
County Cork Ireland. I have done some reasearch on the descendents and
have severl gaps in my info. I have trouble connecting the Cantey's in
Alabama, Georgia, and Louisianna. I have the Cantey's married into the
Hampton, Sumter, Richardson, Manning, Langley, Maples, Schafer and other
families. My biggest problem is the time frame between 1790 and about
1850 in all the above mentioned areas. I can either find them in SC and
then the other States but cannot find where the patriarch went to those
States. Any help would be appreciated.
