Greene Co, TN, died 18 Apr 1960 at Knoxville, Knox Co, TN, daugh-
ter of James H. CANTER (143) and Martha E. "Melvina" WHITEHORN
(144). SOURCE NOTES: SOURCE NOTES: SOURCE: US CENSUS Information
for the following years and copies of the referenced census pages
may be found in the photo and documents section:
CENSUS: 1870, Greene Co, TN, District 18, 23/23; page 380/3,
dated 16 August 1870, age 6/12, Cordelia, F, W; (please note
here that she was only 6 months old during that census).
CENSUS: 1880;
CENSUS: 1890;
CENSUS: 1900, Sevier Co, TN, District 9, 151/151;
In the 1900 census she is listed as "Corda", and in some papers
she is listed as "Gorda" because of the handwriting, but it
should be Corda. Her nickname was "Corda" and I remember every-
one called her that or "Mother".
CENSUS: 1910, Sevier Co, TN.
RESEARCH NOTES: Personal Experience: I knew my grandmother CORDA
very well. She was a very quite person, with a soft voice. Dur-
ing all that time I never asked her once about her middle initial
F., but now I believe it was for "Foster". This belief is be-
cause the maiden name of her mother was Foster.
I remember talking with her about the family and family history
many times.
She was very willing to discuss many of the things and the ques-
tions which I would ask her about it. During those years she
mostly lived with Lena, southeast of Knoxville, near Seymour, TN
and Nellie who was also living in the same house, but she did
visit our house several times. I started discussing the family
history with her in 1955 when my High School teacher for civics
gave the class an assignment for 6 months that year to work on
family history as a class project.
My grandmother, Cordelia passed away when I was 21 years old at
the home of Lena (Mrs. Joe Ellis, Dick Ford Lane, Knoxville. TN
at 1:45 AM. She was 92 years old, and her health had been down
for some years, but her mind was still very good during the pre-
vious weeks.
Several pictures of Cordelia may be seen in the photo and docu-
ments section, along with pictures of Lena and Nellie. Married 3

Article from a Knoxville Newspaper on 27 Jul 1926, I am
quoting the following article about Emory.
FARMER DIES WHEN TRUCK LEAVES ROAD
Emory Manes, of Sevier County, fatally crushed on Se-
vierville Pike, July 26, 1926
Emory H. Manes, 32, farmer, of Boyd's Creek, Sevier Coun-
ty, was almost instantly killed this morning about
2-o'clock when the truck load of produce he was bringing to
market in Knoxville turned over on the Sevierville Pike four
miles from Knoxville. His brother, Newman Manes, age 13 at
the time, was also in the truck during the morning of the
accident but was uninjured.
Manes is believed to have fallen asleep as the tracks from
the small truck's wheels showed that the vehicle had gradu-
ally drifted from the road. The truck went down down a
small embankment at a culvert and turned turtle, pinning the
man's neck under it.
A resident of the section (county), a Mr. Walker, heard the
crash and rushed to the scene of the accident, but was un-
able to lift the vehicle from the injured man's body. Signs
of life were present shortly after the accident, but when
the truck was removed from the body, the man was pronounced
dead.
Manes left his home at Boyd's Creek, near Union Valley Bap-
tist Church, Sevier County, early this morning before day-
light to bring a load of apples and beans to market. He was
a person who brought a lot of organization to the MANES fam-
ily, and his influence was missed very much.
He is survived by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. B.
Manes; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Hodges, Boyd's Creek; Mrs
Mable Galyon, Dandridge and Miss Lena Manes, Boyd's Creek,
and five brothers, Walter C., Lee W., Fuller, Wade and
Newman Manes.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed at noon today,
but burial will be in the Knob Creek Baptist Church yard.
Mr. Manes was a highly respected farmer of the community to
which he lived, and has for many years been a leading member
and untiring worker in the Union Valley Baptist Church, 16
miles from Knoxville on the Sevierville Pike.
3 Walter Charles MANES (73), born 2 Feb 1896 at Union Valley,
Sevier Co, TN, died 16 Mar 1989 at Strawberry Plains, TN.

SOURCE NOTES: SOURCE NOTES: Fuller's first fifteen years
were growing up on a farm. By the time he was ten years
old, he had 9 other brothers and sisters to help feed, care
for, play with and the many facets of work which had to be
done each day.
"Clifford" and "Snowball" were some of his nicknames he
was
called during those early years. I (Alda Clifford) was
named after my father and his nickname during those years.
Pictures of Fuller show him many times in a three piece suit
and a man of many places.
During his youth and while still a young man during his
youth, he was photographed in the presence of several dif-
ferent females. He did not marry until ago 34, and by that
time he had worked and visited many places.
He attended school at Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy,
which was a walk of about 5 or 6 miles each way from his
home. He was heard many times telling about when he boarded
at the Academy (school dormitory) for an unknown period of
time.
While attending school at Harrison Chilhowee where he was
enrolled in the following courses:
