Hello CANNON ROOTERS!
First-time poster on CANNON-L!
I am seeking all info on a Mary CANNON, who was born about 1785 in
Virginia, possibly Lunenberg County. Mary Cannon married Nathaniel
DACUS, Jr. (1779-1852), about 1805 either in VA, or in Greenville, or
Pickens County where the DACUSES settled about 1790 and later.
Nathaniel, a native of Lunenberg Co., VA, and his wife Mary, removed to
Cherokee County, AL about 1838. Both died before 1852 in Cherokee
County. Later that same year, their children migrated to northeast
Arkansas in a wagon train made up of twelve families from Cherokee
County.
The 1840 Cherokee County, AL census lists five CANNON households, who
are likely closely related to Mary (CANNON) DACUS, but none of them
appear to be old enough to be her father. They include the following: R.
G. Cannon, 30 to 40; A. Cannon, 20-30; Thomas Cannon, under 5; J. T.
Cannon, 20-30; and R. Cannon, 30-40. Mary (Cannon) Dacus was 55 in 1840
census.
Although there were numerous CANNON households in South Carolina in
1800-1840, only two are likly candidates to be the father of Mary:
William and Lincoln CANNON, are both listed in the 1800 Greenville Co.,
SC census, and both are listed as 45 & up. In 1810, we find Henry
Cannon, 45 and up; William Cannon, 26 to 45??; and Jon Cannon, 16-26.
If you have any info that would help me link MARY CANNON to her parents
or to any of the above subjects, I would be most grateful.
