John Henry Cannon was born Nov. 1840 in Bridgetown, Caroline Co. MD to John
& Susan Elliott Cannon. His grandparents are Solomon and Rebecca Mason Cannon
who married in Caroline Co. MD in 1797.
Between 1874 through the early 1900's John Henry Cannon and his
family lived on Cockrell's Creek in the Fairfield District of Northumberland
Co. John Henry ran a railway, hauling oyster boats up to scrape and clean
them. I would love to know more about the railway.
John Henry's first wife, Addie Francis Waterman, died there in Sept. 1880.
Her funeral was attended by Rev. Betts. Addie was either from Vermillon, So.
Dakota or Vermont. He married her almost immediately after the Civil War, but
I need help detemining where he married her. So. Dakota & Vermont are a far
distance apart.
John Henry married his second wife, Georgieanna Morgan, of Mathews Co. VA in
July 1881. More babies were born in Northumberland Co. Georgieanna died at
home in Jan. 1892. She is reported to be buried in a small family cemetery
that was next door to their home on Cockrell's Creek. No doubt Addie and the
babies are buried at the same place.
John Henry then married his 3rd wife, Ida Massey. By 1906 they were living in
Richmond and he applied for his Confederate pension.
These are the children born to John Henry Cannon & his 3 wives; (some died
young) James Richard, Louis Mason, John Lee, Arthor Mahone, Walter
Thompson, William Solomon, George Elliott, Addie Francis, Logan Bernard,
Lorene Eugene, Laura Virginia, and Irene Ida. Most of these children married &
raised
families in VA. Some lived in Crisfield, MD. I have bits & pieces on them &
would love to share if anyone connects.
If anyone has any leads, ideas, relatives or information I'd appreciate your
passing them along.
Thank you,
Mary
