The follwing transcriptions are regarding the Cannon family living in
Bedford and Franklin Counties, Virginia. Possibly earlier in Amelia and
Nottoway Counties, Virginia.
I am trying to locate and document this family. My direct line is
Prudence Cannon who married Leroy Meador.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As a deed signed by Leroy Meador in 1797 in Bedford County states that
he is from Nottoway Co., Virginia, it is likely that he and Prudence
Cannon married in Nottoway Co. However, "Guide to Marriage Records in
the Virginia state Library" states tht Nottoway Co. was formed in 1788
from lands belonging to Amelia Co. and that early marriage records were
lost during the Civil War. A search of Amelia, Bedford and Nottoway
Counties located no marriage records for Leroy Meador and Prudence
Cannon.
However, Leroy and Prudence Meador signed a deed together in Bedford Co.
on January 24, 1803. (Bedford Co. Virginia Deed Book 11, Page 704) In
July 1833 Franklin Co. Court in a case regarding Prudence's brother,
John Cannon, she is listed as "Prudence Meador, widow of Leroy". The
Virginia Certification of Death for her son, Benjamin Meador, lists
Leroy and Prudence Meador as his parents.
