Does anyone have information about Riley/Ryley CANNON who married Priscilla
BELL 26 Jan 1832 in Washington County Tennessee? ( There were two other
Cannon/Bell marriages in that decade in Washington County--Polly Ann Cannon m
Phillip Bell and Sarah Cannon m Allon Bell--but in those cases, the females
were Cannons who married Bells.) I need to find a Cannon family who would be
the correct age to be my missing link.
Actually, I am trying a new angle on finding the parentage of my
gt-gt-grandmother Jane CANNON who married Abraham FINE 7 Sep 1854 in
Washington County. Abraham had an aunt Sarah ANDERS who married James BELL
in 1819. I thought that might tie him with Riley and Priscilla Bell CANNON's
family and hopefully to Jane's relatives.
What I already know about Jane is that she was born in April 1833 based on
info she listed on the 1900 census. She also indicated that both her parents
had been born in North Carolina.
The 1850 census shows Riley 40 Unk and Prescilla Cannon 35 T in Greene County
Tennessee with 3 children aged 8, 5 and 1. It seems unusual that a couple
married 18 years at that point would have 3 such young children but no
teenages. Obviously, there could be LOTS of explanations, but on the other
hand, maybe there were older children who were elsewhere when the census
taker came by. Jane would have been 16 or 17 that year depending on the
month the census was conducted, but no one named Jane matches the profile. I
did find twelve females aged 16 or 17 who might be listed under a different
first name or who might be with a family other than their parents. For
example, William Cannon, 70, NC was listed with Laura 19 and Christianna 16.
He may have been their father, but more likely a grandfather. Could she or
some other unidentified girl be my missing Jane?
I'd certainly appreciate any information about Riley/Ryley and/or Jane CANNON
or any other suggestions.
