Dear fellow Cannon's,
I hope I'm not abusing this system by posting the same data every couple
of months.
Perhaps, one of you could guide me in researching, as I've been at a
dead end shortly
after I became interested in genealogy.
Just in case: I'm looking for any information that could help me
identify the parents
or other ancestors of my great great grandfather.
He was Nathan(eil) Thomas (Tom) Cannon born circa 1842.
I really do not have a real clue as to where in Kentucky he was from.
My grandfathers sister is the only link alive between he and I. Her
data is
conflicting and proves no results.
The Cannon I'm trying to pin down has some data in the Atlanta archives.
I also have some veterans records my great-aunt passed down to me.
This Cannon enlisted in the Orphan Brigade and served under Colonel
James Moss / Company A. 2nd Ky Infantry (CSA). Colonel Moss was killed
at the Battle of Jonesboro, Ga. Anyway, this Cannon surrendered with
his
unit in Washington, Ga and settled in Lincoln ton, Ga. He's buried in
nearby
Augusta next to his wife (Mary Susan Harmon Cannon).
I've tried searching Georgia records in hope that his parents would be
revealed via
his service records, or at the least his place of birth. I cant find
where he applied
for any pension or veterans benefits. I know where and when in Ky he
enlisted.
He named his first son ( my Great Grandfather ) after his commander and
his commanders brother, thus James Luther Moss Cannon. Anyway, I've
submitted
all the information I know for sure.
Again, I hope I'm not imposing on anyone for reposing from time to time,
but I'm really
hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
Sincerely,
Jerry Cannon
Snellville, Ga
