Hello Cannon's & other interested..
I need to try another post. I don't want to abuse the system, but have
a strong desire to
interact with you, and see if I can get the ox out of the ditch.
From my research, I can identify by paper and oral history, one Nathan
Thomas Cannon.
As far as I can tell, he was from the Columbus, Kentucky area ( Hickman
County ).
I can not verify his parents or any other ancestors. What I have been
told, is his father died
when he was young, and his mother re-married a gentleman with the last
name of BERRY.
When the Civil war kicked off, N.T. Cannon, and one of the Berry's
joined the Confederate
Army, and the other brothers ( Cannon's & Berry's ) joined the Union
Army. My GG-Grandfather enlisted in Company A. 2nd Kentucky Inf (
Orphan Brigade ).
After campaigning through Georgia and surrendering with his unit in
Washington, Ga.
he decided not to return to Kentucky. He and one other soldier settled
in Lincoln County
( Lincolnton, Ga ).
I'm getting long winded, so I will try to shorthen this. N.T. Cannon
was born circa 1842.
He died December 1917 and is burried in Westview Cemetary in Augusta,
Ga.
His wife was Mary Susan Harmon/d born circa 1844 and died in 193?. Her
father
was in the First Ga. during the war of Northern Aggression ( just
kidding ).
If anyone could help me trace N.T. Cannon's parents. I would be most
greatful.
I will also send you a "Yankee" minie ball I dug from the "Johnston
River Line"
(Sherman's approach to Atlanta) as I and several friends are into relic
/ artifact hunting.
Thanks,
Jerry Cannon
