Hello,
I'm new to the list. I have some information that I wanted to post
regarding some Cannons. Though I do have a Cannon line myself (back
to Simcock Cannon), this is not related to them--that I am aware of.
My ggg uncle George W. Melton was from Coffeeville, MS and traveled
west to teach school, and pick up other work, in Lavaca Co. Texas in
1857 and 1858 . I have a record he kept of his students. It is a
little book and also includes lists of his accounts and expenses.
One of the later lists in the book includes references to several
Cannons. It is not absolutely clear that they were in TX, and in fact
may not have been. It is hard to tell. The earlier lists in the book
state very clearly the year and place. These latter lists do not. The
Cannons are all on the later lists.
These Cannons are:
Wm. (William) Cannon who paid $8,50 (presumably for the education of
his children).
Sary Ann Cannon (several pages later; appears to be a student)
N. C. Cannon
Martha Cannon
Burril Cannon
John Cannon (these four are listed one after the other in yet another
list)
Henry Cannon
John F. Cannon
Samuel Cannon
and 2 unnamed Cannons (on the same list as N.C. through John)
Wm. Cannon
Rafond [Raford?] Cannon (several pages later on a list which may or
may not be a continuation of the previous list).
I know this isn't a lot, but such as it is I thought I would send it
on to the list so it would be in the archive.
