I am seeking any information relative to the descendants of Henry Cannon
and Polly Martin. Henry and Polly were married in Clarke County,
Georgia on 24 February 1808. It appears that Henry died about 1829.
Polly and some of her children resided in DeKalb County, GA in the
1830-1850 period.
Possible children who moved to Tennessee in the early 1830s were:
Elijah Cannon, b. Georgia 1809. d. Lincoln County, TN 26 December
1879; m. (1) Dias ________. 12 children. m. (2) Harriet ______.
Almon Cannon, b. Georgia 13 June 1812; d. Bedford County, TN
18 August 1896; m. (1) unknown, 3 children; m. (2) Elizabeth
Stewart, 4 children; m. (3) Ellendor Powell, 4 children.
Margaret Cannon, b. Georgia ca 1814.
Known children who remained in Georgia:
John C. Cannon, b. Georgia ca 1816; death info unknown; m. (1)
unknown, 4 children: Calvin, Valentine, Henry and Arminda; m.
(2) Margaret Jett, DeKalb County, GA April 20, 1846, 5 children:
Paulinda, Charles, female twins, and George W. In the 1850 census he
and family resided in Sumter County, GA next door to brothers: James
W. and Henry B. He later returned to Fulton County, GA.
William E. Cannon, b. Georgia ca 1818; death info unknown, m.
May 02, 1849 Mary Campbell in Dekalb County, GA, 6 known children:
William J. Cannon, Mary A. Cannon, John T. Cannon, Elizabeth J.Cannon,
James Cannon, and Harrison Cannon. The family was in the Buckhead
district of Fulton County, GA at the time of the 1860 census but were
in Cobb County, Ga at the time of the 1870 census.
James W. Cannon, b. Georgia ca 1823; death info unknown, m. ca 1846,
Emily (possibly HOLLEY), 4 known children: Jasper H. Cannon, ?laul
Cannon, Randall Cannon and Jackson Cannon. The family was residing in
Sumter County, Ga at the time of the 1850 census. Brother Henry B.
Cannon was also residing in the household. No further information on
the family of James W. Cannon after the 1850 census.
________ Cannon, female, b. Georgia ca 1825; died Georgia ca 1849;
m. ca 1841 Georgia Washington Cash. Possibly resided in Paulding
County, GA. Four (4) children: Ellison Cash, George Riley Cash,
Sarah Ann Cash and Bryant Cash. Both parents died in Georgia before
1850. Uncle John C. Cannon was appointed guardian for the 4 orphaned
Cash children. George Washington Cash was possibly the oldest son of
Howard Cash and Sally Proffitt.
Henry B. Cannon, b. Georgia ca 1828; death info unknown. Resided in
Sumter County, GA at time of the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census. Lived in
household of brother, James W. Cannon at 1850 census; m. ca 1856
Elizabeth ________, 3 known children: William Cannon, Ann Sady Cannon
and Reuben Cannon. His mother, Mary/Polly Cannon was living in his
household at the 1860 census as was a Franklin Dees, age 17, male.
Possible child who remained in Georgia:
Theophilus Cannon, b. 24 November 1824, Walton County, GA.; d. 29 July
1900. Gwinnett County, GA. He was raised as a "foster" child. m. 1
February 1849, Sarah JANES or JONES, 9 children: William L. CAnnon,
Charles B. Cannon, Mary Frances Cannon, Jesse F. Cannon, James W.
Cannon, Thomas Almon Cannon, George W. Cannon, and Louzane Cannon.
