Hi Michelle,
If there is a LDS Family History Center near you, you can get a chart
from there showing Thomas of MD, b ca 1640, I believe, and coming down
to the late 1700s or early 1800s including a Mary Cannon and a James
Cannon in Newberry, SC. This chart appears to be inconsistent and may
be more than one line of Cannons, but I do think you'll find your James
there. I have the chart somewhere here but have misplaced it.
Let me know if you're not near a FHC and I will obtain it again from
the one here and mail to you. It may be even more there now since they
had an update of their records last year.
My line is as follows but I haven't tied into the Newberry group
although they lived only a few miles apart. I do know there was a brother
who settled in the Spartanburg Dist (Laurens Co. Area) and two brothers
in Newberry Co. (96 Dist at the time). I live in Greenwood Co which is
between the two.(Laurens & Newberry). Originally it was part of the old 96
Dist, then Edgefield, Laurens, and Abbeville, SC. In 1797 Greenwood
became a County from parts of Edgefield, Laurens and Abbeville, SC.
NInety Six town is 9 miles from Greenwood, Newberry and Laurens, about
30 miles and Abbeville, 14 miles.
My line:
me -
father - Charles William Cannon, b. 1919, d. 1982
mother - living
grandfather - John Henry Cannon, b. 1882 Laurens Co,
SC;
d. 1952 Greenwood Co., SC
(Stroke)
m. Sallie Belle Gray, dau of
J W & Grace
Woodall Gray.
ggf - Nathan Cannon, b. 1843, Laurens Co, SC
d. 1909, Greenwood Co., (Ware Shoals)
m. Laura Bagwell, b. 1958, dau of James
L or T
and Frances Mote Bagwell.
gggf - James Cannon, b. ca 1797 SC, d.1770/1780
m. Juretta ? , b. ca 1800/1810
It is possible that your James was my James' father, but I haven't
been able to determine that. Do you show any children for your James?
Hope this helps!
Joye
