John Canon/Cannon b.c. 1852-54 AL (enumerated with surname Harris with his
mother and step-father, Hilliard Harris on 1870 Lee Co.,MS census). The
family is said to have been on their way to Jonesboro, AR where there were
other relatives. John was convicted in Craighead Co.Criminal Court in 1892
for grand larceny (stealing horses according to family stories) and spent
five years in Little Rock State Penitentiary. He lived in the Jonesboro
area for a while somewhere between 1900-1915. I have a prison number and
the 1870 Lee Co.,MS census record--other than that, I can't find a trace of
him.
He is said to have had a wife, Nan, and six children: James, John, Robert
Wesley, Mary and Annie. John may have been blind from working in coal
mines. James possibly married while the family lived in AR. Family stories
say they moved to Missouri, but again, so far no trace of him.
ANY help with John Canon/Cannon would be appreciated.
