Sallie,
Ancestry records (which aren't always documented) only show one child
for
William and Elizabeth (Betsy) Ruff Cannon., but can't be correct!
William (Billy) Cannon, b. abt 1780. This date can't be possible
since
Elizabeth was born abt 1792, SC and d. abt 1830, TX.
William, son of David and Nancy Cannon, is shown as born in 1787 and
died 17 Oct 1815 in Pomaria, Newberry, South Carolina.
There were 30 different people who submitted info on this family.
Only
one shows the above information. When I click on that record which is
supposed to have sources, it is showing that this William "Billy" Cannon,
b.
abt 1789 and d. in Newberry, Anderson Co. (can't be correct), SC married
Nancy Isabella Cox b. abt 1780, and had a daughter, Elizabeth Cannon, b.
19
Nov. 1799 in Newberry, SC, and died 15 Apr, 1891 in Hall County, GA. This
Elizabeth Cannon is shown married abt 1820 to Thomas R. III Shockley, b.
27
Mar. 1793 in Pendleton District, SC
They have 10 children listed and sources listed are 1. Title: Thomas
Shockley, ftm.FTW Repository and 2.Title: Sam Shockley Richard Shockley
descendants.FTW Repository.
My opinion is that this William (Billy) Cannon family is definitely
not a son of William and Elizabeth, but evidently is the father of the
Elizabeth Cannon, b. 1799 in Newberry, SC. Billy may be a cousin. This
same
site shows David and Nancy had 10 children - Martha, Mary, Sarah, William,
Anna, Mahala, Samuel, George Johnston, David M, Thomas Vardeman.
SC Archives has a site from which you can quiery wills, etc., but it
is not easy to use. I will check it for you for a will on William and
Elizabeth Ruff Cannon.
Even though these Cannons were close to Laurens Co., SC, I have never
found any data to indicate or document they are related to my Cannon
lines.
Wish I could but it isn't there. I have just recently discovered a William
Cannon who came to SC through Charleston and to Laurens in 1764/67. I also
found another William Cannon in Laurens Co., b. later, who could have been
his son and possible father of my James Cannon, b. 1897/98. The later
William was on the 1790 and 1800 censuses.
