Bart,,
this little book is very hard to find-you might check if it's at LDS
it's called Our Walkers from virginia to texas
by a Clevia Clardy
i got it from a lady i met on line- her friend had a copy-she took it
to the copy place and made me a copy.
i understand it was only given to a few of the authors family members
its mostly about the line of William Cannon Walker
and their descendants.
the passages i sent you are the only mentions of Jeremiah Cannon.
there is a Benj. Cannon listed in 1744
in the titables page.
there is a story i've heard from my cousins who knew my gr
grandfather- he lived to almost a hundred
he was a young man during the civil war.
the rebs were going to all the farms forcing boys to join.
his mother dressed him up in his sisters clothes and sent him to an
uncle- it was one of the Cannons.
he lived in a more remote part of Jefferson county where they
didn't get much traffic from the armies.
he said he passed a reb patrol and they whistled at him.
he finally enlisted in the northern army with a brother.
the war did a number on the family-
part were north -his half brothers were rebs. some died.
Ann
I would love to obtain your "little book" about the
Walkers.
It seems that Jeremiah was determined in court to be a soldier in the Seven
Years War (French and Indian) and then quickly re-drafted and then released.
I find it pretty confusing. I think ancient Jeremiah and I are still
confused about who was on whose side in the Seven Years War.
I have a recollection that the name Jeremiah Cannon shows up again in early
Knox or Jefferson County, Tennessee.
I am still looking for the author of the "new research" on Benjamin Cannons
which I spoke about yesterday.
Bart
