Good afternoon Tom:
I am the niece of Harold and Ellen Cannon . They wrote the book about
Newton and Betsey (Juett)Cannon (1979). I am still looking for Newton and
Betsey (Juett) Cannon.
How is your search going? I think I saw a post of yours on the Lower
Delmarva list dated Sept 5, 2003 which Craig O'Donnell answered.
I have been contacted by a lady,Christina B. Stephens of KY whose
son-in-law is related to Samuel and Charlotte (Cannon) Penn. She is an
eager, thorough, and accurate researcher. She and I have been exchanging
information for about 2 weeks now. I am sending her a copy of
correspondence between Mattie Powell Griffith, who was the bookmobile lady
in Georgetown, and my aunt and uncle. Right now we are stuck at the very
same point Mattie, Harold and Ellen were. Like them we feel Newton was
related to the Sussex Co. DE Cannons, specifically Henry and Francis
(Newton) Cannon.
Two questions: Do you know if Mattie Powell Griffith left her notes with
the library? She was a very avid family researcher and I cannot see her
failing to ensure the protection of her many years of research. The other
question pertains to the Newton Cannon Family Bible which was in the
possession of John Francis and Mildred Cannon of Georgetown. Chris seems to
feel that it should be examined for a publishing date and handwritings.
Have you ever seen the Bible "in person" or would you be willing to contact
John Francis Cannon?
I have requested a copy of Harold and Ellen's book for her which I hope she
shall receive soon.
