Subject: Re: [CANNON] Thanksgiving dinner
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
I am enjoying reading everyone's submission of inviting their one
ancestor to Thanksgiving dinner! If I could invite one of my Cannon
ancestors, it would be my great grandmother, Laura J. Bagwell Cannon, b.
1858 in Laurens Co., SC; d. 12/02/1925. She could tell me so much about
my
Cannons and Bagwells to clear up a lot of unavailable family history.
She
was born while her father was still living (James Bagwell, b. 1827, KIA
in
1864 in VA), and her mother, Sarah Frances Mote(s)/Moats, lived until
after
the 1880s or 1890s. Therefore, she could tell me all about her father's
parents, Fredrick and Winnifred (Winnie) Bagwell of Princeton/Line Creek
area, Greenville Co., SC who both died during the 1860s. Yes, she lost
her
father, and her Bagwell grandparents in the 1860s. On the 1870 census
she
is living with 70+ yr old Rilla (Priscilla) and 34 yr old Jureda Taylor.
She could tell me who these people are and which Taylor was Priscilla's
husband!
Her mother, Frances, isn't found anywhere on the census that year,
nor
her brother, James Wiley, b. 1859, or sister, Mary, b. 1857. They are
on
the 1870 census and Laura (Lura) is married to my great grandfather,
Nathan
Cannon, b. 1840/43, son of James, b. ca 1797/98 in SC, and Jurita ?
Cannon,
b. ca 1810 in VA according to census. James died in the 1870s and
Jurita
(Rita) in the 1880s or 1890s. Laura could tell me all that Nathan told
her
about his brothers who served in the Civil War, (two died) and all about
his
sisters and their daughters who I can find no information. She could
tell
me what happened to her mother and if she remarried a Williams and where
she
is buried. She may even be able to tell me who James Cannon's parents
were
and what Jurita's maiden name was and who her parents were! And what
William Bagwell's wife's name was ( maybe Elizabeth Stone?) Gees, she
could
maybe even tell me a lot more about the Bagwells and Cannons! She could
tell me about my great grandparents whose daughter married her son,
John,
and where they are buried! And more! My brick walls would come tumbling
down, down, down!
How wonderful all this would be!
