I am seeking any information pertaining to Hanna or Hannah Cannon who I think (no proof)
was the youngest daughter of James Cannon and wife Sarah Reed. James and Sarah were
living in Ninety-Six District, Pendleton County, SC at the time of the 1790 Census. The
family consisted of 1 male (head of household), one male under 16, and 4 females. The two
older sisters were Unity Cannon who married Isaac Herring and Clarissa Cannon who married
Isaac's brother Elijah Herring. It is also my belief that Hannah Cannon was the
mother of my great grandfather, Almon Cannon, and that he, Almon, was an illegitimate
child. My data shows the family of James Cannon and Sarah Reed as follows:
Descendants of James CANNON And Wife Sarah Reed
1 James CANNON 1739 - aft.1800 (son of John Cannon and Ann Ellison of Newberry County,
SC)
.. +Elizabeth Pickens (not proved as wife of James Cannon)
*2nd Wife of James CANNON:
.. +Sarah Reed 1750 - abt 1800
........ 2 Unity CANNON 1770 -
............ +Isaac Herring
........ 2 Clarissa CANNON 1775 -
............ +Elijah HERRING
........ 2 Hannah CANNON abt 1782 -(not proved as daughter of James and Sarah)
............ +unknown
........ 2 James CANNON abt. 1784 - 1855 -(not proved as son of James and Sarah)
............ +Mary Capehart 1780 - 1857
Evidently Sarah Reed Cannon died during the 10 year period before the 1800 Federal Census.
In the 1800 Census of Pendleton District South Carolina James Cannon was the head of
household of household # 363 which consisted of James (age over 45) and a son (over 10 but
under 16). They were living within three households from the household of Orman Morgan
(household #366).
