One origin of the "Fincannon" name is from "Von Kaenel", which is a
Swiss
family dating back to 1532 of the birth of Konrad Von Kaenel in the Bern,
Switzerland area. The "V" was pronounced as an "F" and the name
became
Fincannon through a couple of rounds of being Anglicized. Some of this
line dropped the "Fin" and just became Cannon's along the way.
If there are others on this board that are descendants of this line, please
let me know and I'll be happy to swap info. Other spellings along the way
included Von Kennon, Von Kennen, and Voncannon.

Bev,
There is a book called something like Cannon, Fincannon, and a couple
other ___cannons. I had read some in it at the Greenville County Gen
Lib
a few years ago. I think the name is Dutch, but not certain without
looking up my information on it.
Now, if that is not something to think about, here in Greenwood, SC off
Bucklevel road near the Coronaca township is a private road named
Fincannon. Our telephone directory doesn't show a Fincannon in that
location, but it does show two Fincannons in Saluda, SC, one on the
Greenwood Highway (178 I assume) and the other a minister on another road.
Maybe I can get the nerve to call the minister and ask him about the orgin
of his name.
