I have an elusive John F. Cannon born 1805 in Virginia. He has no siblings
and no parents. He is married in Shenandoah County in 1829 to Adaline
Williams. He has a postal contract between 1832 and 1855. He lives near
Front Royal, Warren County, Virginia from about 1830 until 1854 when he
moved to Wood County, West Virginia. He appears on the Warren County census
for 1840 and 1850. He is on 1860 Wood County (West) Virginia census, the
1870 Census in Wirt County, West Virginia and the 1880 Ritchie County,
Census. On the 1880 census he says he, his father and mother were all born
in Virginia.
His three sons served in the Confederacy all dying within a short time
of the War. His daughter said that they were FFV.
I have analyzed the 1810 and 1820 census looking for sons about the right
age and working forward. I am wondering if anyone can identify the sons of
the following males listed as heads of households in these two censuses?
1810
Robert Cannon in Brooke County, Virginia
George Cannon in Caroline County, Virginia
Leonard Cannon in Hampshire County, Virginia
Fanny Cannon in Henrico County, Virginia
James Cannon in Henrico Cannon, Virginia
John Cannon in Princess Ann County Virginia ( he is between 24 and 44 years
of age)
William Cannon in Princess Ann County, Virginia
Patrick Cannon in Rockbridge County, Virginia
1820 census
Reuben Cannon in Culpeper County, Virginia
Richard Cannon in Monongalia County, (West) Virginia
Sarah H. Cannon in Prince William County, Virginia
Francis Cannon in Prince William County, Virginia
Luke Cannon in Prince William County, Virginia
I have attempted to research each of these individuals. While I know a lot
about them all, I am not positive I have their sons accurately identified.
I thought I might add to that by having a descendent or other knowledgeable
person help me out.
Thank you in advance.
