Hi Florence,
It surely is good to hear from you! I know the question that you have. I
corresponded with Raiford several times with the same question. Raiford
sent me notes from Al Humphries which state the will of John Cannon reads,
"Martha Alexander sister of John McKnitt Alexander who witnessed all their
transactions." I have not seen the will. Mac Alexander sent me "Martha
Alexander, dau of James Robert Alexander". I do not have the SOURCE before
me for the following inf. However, I did locate where "John Alexander was
awarded guardianship of a Martha Alexander, Samuel Alexander (and, others of
whom I can't recall); children of Ester Laycock. Orphan's Court Records,
PA." I will try to locate this source name and pub. I just returned from
the Mecklenburg NC area and visited the cemetery at Hopewell Presbyterian
Church where John/Martha are buried. Fran Chancellor

I am trying to establish if Martha A. (d. 1798), wife of John Canon (d.
1794), who is buried in Hopewell Cemetery in Mecklenburg, NC, was an
Alexander or an Addison. Her son John Canon (b. 1764) named a son James
Addison Canon. Her daughter Ann Canon Smith (b. abt 1763) had a
grandson named Samuel Addison Golden. Many family records show her as
an Alexander, but I have seen no proof or link to a particular Alexander
family.
I would like to correspond with any descendants of John and Martha A.
Canon, especially any who have Addisons in their family lines. There
were Addisons in the Mecklenburg area, and I suspect that there was a
family connection somewhere.
