Subject: [CANNON] Virginia Ellis Cannon
A fellow Cannon researcher contacted me off the list asking me if
the
Ellis Cannon I was referring to in my reply was the same as "Virginia
Ellis Cannon." There is NO "Virginia Ellis Cannon!" Let me repeat!!!!
THERE IS NO VIRGINIA ELLIS CANNON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is an
appellation attached to the name of Rev. Ellis Cannon who came to
Spartanburg County, SC from Virginia after the American Revolution by a
recent researcher--evidently in an effort to distinguish him from other
Cannons with the same name. With the exception of this one woman's work
I have NEVER, EVER found reference to a "Virginia Ellis Cannon." My
Mother and I have researched the Cannons since 1972. We have consulted
numerous county records (deeds, court records--both civil and criminal),
state records (including--but not limited to--land grants, petitions to
the SC state legislature, and federal records--including but not limited
to federal court records, military records, bounty land grants, and
pension files. No where have we found a "Virginia Ellis Cannon" except
in this one person's research and our database now numbers over 16,000
proven Cannon descendants from John Cannon of Overwharton Parish,
Virginia. I don't care that this researcher has strewn this information
all over the Internet and "shared" it with numerous researchers. HER
INFORMATION IS WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
