Thanks, Janice! I will check that out. Many people from SC named their
sons Pinckney/Pinkney after Charles Pinckney of SC. So, I hadn't even
considered a Cannon/Pinckney connection.
Charles Pinckney (October 26, 1757-October 12, 1824) was an American
politician who was a signer of the United States Constitution, Governor of
South Carolina, a Senator and a member of the House of Representatives. He
was "the second cousin of fellow-signer Charles Cotesworth Pinckney."

Dear JoyMac, in reading your post I noticed the name Pinkney. There
is a
well-researched line of Pinkneys in central SC beginning circa 1750, some
of which married into CANNON lines. You might google that name and see if
you can get to their website and check it out.
good hunting,
Janice (Cannon)

Subject: Re: [CANNON] Cannon's and related family
Bev, Linda and others interested:
I did have Nathaniel Cannon's (Laurens Co.) birth date or possible date.
My
James Cannon (wife Juretta ?) was born abt 1797/98. The only Cannon in
Laurens Co. at that time was a William Cannon and years before the census
there was another William Cannon, possible father of the 1800 William
Cannon
(or grandfather). I am thinking this is my James Cannon's line, but
can't
find any documentation to prove it. I do know the first William Cannon
in
Laurens Co. came into SC and to Laurens about 1763/65 from a record dated
then where he came into Charles Town by ship. I haven't been able to
determine the name of the ship which arrived in Charles Town at that
time.
I also am aware Nathaniel and his family moved on to GA and started a
church
there. My great grandfather was Nathan Cannon and he was a son of James.
James' first son was James, which would indicate he was possibly named
after
his grandfather, making James1's father to be a James also. However,
sometime the first son was name after his oldest uncle. So, Nathaniel
would
appear to possibly be James' brother, in that case. According to when
Nathaniel was born, I am wondering if he is possibly my James' brother or
uncle. It would be great to find out! I still believe William may be
his
father's name, but the youngest of the sons was named William. My
father
was named Charles William Cannon, but I don't know how he came to be
named.
He did have an uncle Will. He had two older brothers, Marvin and John J P
(named after John J. Perishing (sp)). His Dad was John Henry, then
>Nathan>James. James' other sons were Capers Bowman Cannon, John Ransom
Cannon, Pinckney Cannon, Benjamin Cannon, and William N. Cannon - all
born
from 1833 to 1850. They all served in the war and William was kia at
South
Mountain, Md and Capers "Bowman" Cannon was kia at Spottssylvania, VA.
James and "Ritta" had daughters, ELizabeth, b. 1830, Caroline, b. abt
1835,
Mary, b. 1835, Jane, b. 1842, and Octavia, b. abt 1850. Nathan and John
Ransom basically grew this family. John married Rebecca South and they
had 4
sons and 2 daughters, all born between 1857 and 1878 in Laurens Co.
Nathan
married Laura (Lura) J. Bagwell and they had 6 sons and 6 daughters.
Several never married.
Good Hunting everyone and please let me know if you come up with anything
connecting these Williams, James, and Nathaniel. Anyone have any
suggestions?
