Thank you, Joyce, for the response to my other post on James Cannon 1787 Spartanburg, I
will be getting with you shortly.
My James Cannon (1787) has a grandson by the name of Erastus Walker Cannon. When I
searched for an "Erastus" in the
Genealogy.com trees I found my James Cannon
was on a tree with Erastus Van Leu Cannon so I downloaded the gedcom.
This tree included two other, older children than those listed on the 1850 Spartanburg
Census for James (1787) and Elizabeth. The census lists (James) Berry, Thomas, Harriet,
and George (not listed here in birth order) as children of James (1787) and Elizabeth
Cannon.
I learned from this tree that the other two of James' children were:
Mary (Polly) Cannon, who married Henry Cannon, a son of Lucy -?- and William Cannon (who
was a son of Rev. Ellis Cannon). Their children are James P.; Virgil Green; Narcissus E.;
Emaline; Mellisa B.; Albert Pierce Butler; Mary C.; and Samuel C.;
and Sarah Cannon, who married W. Simpson Cannon (also son of the same Lucy and William
Cannon
mentioned above). Their children: William Simpson Cannon and Erastus Van Leu Cannon.
Both sisters seemed to have married grandsons of Rev. Ellis Cannon. If my James (1787) is
a son of Rev. Ellis Cannon, too, then (as often was the case before the railroad and
lately proven by DNA to be of no serious consequence) these sisters married their first
cousins.
I have another question about Barbara Huffman. Some folks have her listed as a wife to
John Cannon, father of Rev. Ellis Cannon while others have her listed as another wife of
Rev. Ellis Cannon. If she married John she may be 1787 James' grandmother. If she
married Ellis, she would be James' mother or step mother.
If James' son Thomas is Thomas Huffman Cannon and grand son of Ellis Cannon and Sarah
Hammit Broderick Cannon why would he be named Huffman. So am I confussed or cornfused?
Is this as weird as thinkle peep it is?
My James (1787) also has grand sons named: Lewis Simpson; James ; Columbus Parker; Troy
Ambrose and as mentioned before, Erastus Walker. Grand daughters names are: Dora; Sarah;
Ayme Etta; and Pearl Etta: All (James) Berry Cannon's children.
Thanks again,
Roberta
