Happy Thanksgiving to All!
Well, how about another "James" Cannon! He is my gr gr grandfather and
he married Juretta ?. My James was born about 1797 and was living in
Laurens Co, SC when he appeared on the censuses.
I would spend Thanksgiving with James and I would ask him first who
his parents and grandparents were . Then, whether he had brothers or
sisters, from what country were his ancestors, what happened to his son
James, and what was Juretta's maiden name. Also, I would like to know about
the lady, Priscilla Taylor, age 75, who his future dau-in-law, Laura Bagwell
was living with in 1870 and where her mother, sister and brother were at
that time. I can't find them on the 1870 census. Laura became their son's,
Nathan, wife. She was living fairly close to them, but not the same street.
All this would resolve a lot of my brick walls!
Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone!

Subject: [CANNON] Thanksgiving Question
These Cannons! "My" James Cannon was not the father of
Samuel Cannon, but
was the son of another Samuel Cannon. This James was born in SC in the
96th district in 1762 and married Rachel Stark. I can't help believing
that all these Samuels and Jameses were related in some way. Moving on .
. . . . .
Could anyone living in those days have anticipated the kind of
technological progress that we take for granted today? If I could invite
them to Thanksgiving dinner, I'd ask them what they had imagined life
would be like 200+ years into the future. Also, this James freed his
slaves at his death, which was about 60 years before the Civil War. I'd
like to know more about that decision and how he made it. . . . and what
Rachel thought about it. And then, borrowing an idea from my
granddaughter, I'd show them how to play solitaire without cards.
