It's me again. Yes, Francis was normally a male name and Frances was the
female version. Also yes wives were sometimes taken as prisoners of war.
I am quoting this from memory so I may be in error, but I remember a
relative, Mary Elizabeth (Molly) YELL, who married a John McGUIRE were
captured and taken to Canada. They were released at a later date and had
to find their way home to Tennessee.

there was a John
CANNON/wife Francis in the 1790s in Old Pendleton Dist., SC.
Anybody got any ideas on this???
