How do I verify the place of birth without a birth certificate,
unavailable to me because I am neither close enough related nor has the
gent been dec'd for 125 years? His parents were married in Fayette Co.,
the county of the mother's birth. It is assumed the family lived in this
county where the children were probably born; the entire family was on
the 1930 Fayette Co. census. Ater 1930 the family relocated to
Tuscaloosa Co., the birth county of the father, and where the family has
continued to live out their lives. At the age of 15 the son applied for
a social security card giving his birth place as Fayette Co. At his
death, his obit stated that he was born in Tuscaloosa Co. I checked the
application for marriage license. Yes, the man had given his place of
birth as Tuscaloosa Co. He, himself, in his own writing, has given
himself different places of birth. Which am I to take seriously? How can
this matter be effectively corrected without a copy of the birth
certificate which the State of Alabama has made unavailable to persons
outside the immediate family for a period of 125 years. How does one
overcome that particular hurdle? Any suggestions will be gratefully
appreciated. And, if you have access to a record that might resolve this
conflict, his name was Charles Morgan Cannon, born 29 Dec 1927 in
Fayette Co., AL., per his application for a social security number and
died 1 Feb 1995 in Tuscaloosa Co., AL., per his obituary. Help in
resolving this contradiction will be most appreciated. Thanks you. mbm
