The 1820 Federal Census of Hall County, Georgia gives the following
information for the William Cannon Household:
2 males under 10 (born after 1810), 1 male age 16 to 26 (born between 1794
& 1804), 1 female age,under 10, 1 female age 16 to 26, and 1 female slave
age under 14.
It is my belief that the Male age 16-26 and the female age 16-26 are
William Cannon, b. 1795 in Ireland and his first wife Mary Morgan Cannon,
b. in SC and died in Limestone County, Alabama abt 1831-32. I further
believe that the three children under 10 were: Elijah Cannon, b. abt. 1810
in Georgia, died December 26, 1879 in Lincoln County, TN; Almon Cannon, b.
December 26, 1879 in Georgia and d. August 18, 1896 in Bedford County, TN;
and Margaret Cannon, b. abt. 1814 in Georgia and died probably in Tennessee
at date unknown.
The problem is that a recent DNA study indicates that Almon Cannon and
probably the other two children were not blood decendants of William
Cannon. Were they foster children or adoptive children of William and Mary?
Were they orphans in the Indian Nation? Any help will be greatly
appreciated.
