Hi listers, it's me again....did not want to put too much in one e-mail so
here is my last bit for today.
We know that Samuel Cannon left original CLEMENT DAVIS land to his wife,
LYDIA.
Will proved 1791.
I found this entry in Newberry Co. Deed Abstracts:
E, 470-472 Lease and release. 23 & 24 Jan 1794, Clemment Davis of Newberry
County, Ninety-Six District, settlement of Bush River to William Gary of
same, by grant dated 8 Feb 1773, recorded in Book NNN, page 567 to said
Clemment Davis, 100 acres on waters of Indian Creek and near the waters of
Bush River adj. Isaac Cannon, John Crowson, Thomas Clark, and known by the
name of Samuel Cannon's old place, now sold for #30 sterling. Clemment Davis
(Seal), Sarah Davis (Seal), Wit: Thomas Gar, Wm. Crow, Jonothan Reeder.
Proved 27 Jan 1794 by the oath of William Crow before Providence Williams,
J.P. Recorded 14 Aug. 1802.
So, am I understanding this correctly?.......DAVIS got the land by grant in
1773, SAMUEL CANNON had it for a time....then DAVIS got it back again and is
selling it in 1794 to yet another party?
If it was SAMUEL CANNON's land first, would it say that DAVIS got it by grant?
Does anyone know what relationship, if any, there was between SAMUEL CANNON
and CLEMENT DAVIS????
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Janice (Cannon)
