OK, here's one for you. Do any of you have any ancestors who might have
traveled down South ( where most of the Cannons are) from1810- from
Westchester Co, NY?
I have just returned from a visit to my GGGGreatGrandparents graves at St.
Paul's Church, Eastchester (Now Mt Vernon in Westchester Co)where they are
buried with 6 of their children, ages 7, 16,18, 21,28 and 52.
I found the stones really weather-beaten and almost unreadable. Two of the
stones weren't even there.
I shouldn't have been surprised since the first burial was in 1830.
The parents, Andrew and Catherine were born 'in Ireland' in 1785 and 1782,
respectively. I have no idea of her maiden name or where or when they were
married except that their first child was born in 1805. He was James, my
GGGreat Grandfather who died at age 52 in Eastchester
His son, John was born in Eastchester in 1848/49 and was found in the 1880
census in Newark, NJ where he lived with his mother, Rhoda Barton Cannon (B
1810 Eastchester) (D 1872 Rahway, Union Co, NJ)
What I am wondering is if Andrew had any siblings who might have come across
with him or if James had any siblings who lived and moved to another state.
Or even if John had siblings who might have moved to Newark with him and his
Mom.
I know all of John's children, grandchildren, GGrandchildren etc, right down
to me who was born in Atlantic City, NJ in 1931,--
Any suggestions out there?
Thank You Kindly, Joan Cannon Martin--
