Richard,
Your information was interesting, and so coincidental. But, I think
that we have 2 different William Cannons. My William Cannon, born 1805
-1810 (3 different censuses with varying ages) in Kentucky, married
Catharine Loving May 6, 1827 in Montgomery County. This is the earliest
known record that I have of him, so I don't know exactly where or when he
was born, or when he came to Illinois. The 1850 and 1860 censuses say that
Catharine was born in North Carolina, but the 1870 census says that she was
born in Kentucky.
I can account for William in 1827 definitely, and maybe in 1835, 1839,
and in 1840 in Montgomery County by land grant records, if it is the same
William Cannon buying property in Montgomery County. I also have him and
his family in Montgomery County for the 1840, 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses.
I am sure it's the right family there. His daughter, Elizabeth Ann Cannon
is my g-g-g grandmother.
I haven't seen an 1880 census. Nor do I know when either William or
Catharine died. But I am sure that William was not in McDonough County from
1833 and on. That is considerably north of Montgomery County.
I was going for a moment, though.

Melissa,
Sorry that I could not help you.
I am also having trouble on my Cannon family in Kentucky. They came
to Washington Co., Kentucky about 1800 from Penn., but where is the problem.
Good luck on your research.
Richard
