Any information concerning Hannah Cannon b about 1785 in either North Carolina or South
Carolina. I think that she was my gg grandmother. Probable parents were James Cannon and
Sarah (Reed) Cannon. Probable siblings are Unity Cannon b. abt 1770, Clarissa Cannon, b.
abt 1775, and James Cannon, Jr. b. abt 1783 and married Mary Capehart. She, along with
Arthur Markham, stood trial in Franklin County (Georgia) Superior Court in 1802 on
charges of Adultery and Fornication. At the time of the trial she was at most a teenager
and Arthur Markham was a 45 year old man, married with 2 or more children.
Known places of residence for Hannah were: Sampson County, NC. She was included in the
1840 Federal Census as head of household there (Sampson County); Chambers County Alabama
where she was included in the 1850 Federal Census in District 19 as a member of the
household of John W. Branch. Her known children included; Everett CANNON. born in Wayne
County, NC Indian Springs,Wayne, NC, Bet. 1813 - 1814, married Nancy Henderson and the
family moved to Tallapoosa County, Alabama; Ann M. CANNON, born in NC about 1820. Was
probably living with Hannah in Sampson County, NC in 1840; James H. CANNON, born in NC
about 1823. He and his wife disappear from the records after the 1850 Chambers County, AL
census, and Eliza Jane Cannon, born in North Carolina about 1825. Other probable children
of Hannah Cannon were: Elijah Cannon, my great grandfather, Almon Cannon, and Margaret
Cannon all of whom moved to Tennessee. For a detailed report on Hannah see my report
