I would love to see these pictures! I live in Greenwood, SC about 34 miles
from Newberry and 28 miles from Laurens, SC. My Cannons are in Laurens
County from about 1760s. I can't document my third gr grandfather James
Cannon, b. abt 1797, as the son of a William Cannon in Laurens County in
1790 and 1800, but there was another William Cannon in Laurens County in the
1760s which could have been my James' grandfather. I haven't been able to
connect with the Newberry Cannons but I sure think there must be a
connection. My James had a son James whom I haven't been able to trace, but
think he may have moved to TN after the war. He was born in 1833. Two or
three of his six brothers were killed in the war, one at only 15. There
were 11 children in all. Several never married.

Subject: [CANNON] CANNON Roll Call - William Cannon -TN & KY
I have traced my father's family back to William CANNON and his
wife,
Malinda GANUS, both born about 1810, + or - a few years, probably in
Tennessee.
William and Malinda are in the 1850 census in Robertson Co. TN with the
following 8 children:
James Monroe, 20
Parthena, 16
(Mary ) Francis, 15
George Riley, 12 (my g-grandfather)
Cordelia, 9
John, 7
William, 2
Sabrina, 3 mo.
In 1860, 1870, and 1880 census, they are in Christian Co., KY
According to family members, William had a sister named Polly who married
Thomas LONG.
The 1840 Robertson Co. TN census shows George CANNON, William CANNON, and
James CANNON living next to each other. Their ages make it appear that
they might be brothers. Also, these three names are repeated in William's
descendants.
I think there's a good possibility that William is descended from the
Cannons in Newberry, South Carolina since I have seen resemblances in
family pictures. I have not been able to find any further information on
William or Malinda. This is my BRICK WALL!
Any help or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Jacqueline Cannon Munch
