I am seeking information on the CANNON family that shows up in and
around Ascension Parish, Louisiana around 1850. There is a Martin Ansil
Cannon, Sr. from Galway, Ireland who married Marie Woods, Mary Jane
Fairbanks and Marie Fabien. There is also a Marcelin CANNON, Marguerite
CANNON, and John CANNON who appear in records for this parish. Other
possible relations are Thomas CANNON of Rescomer, Roscommon Ireland who
died in the parish in 1849 and a Martin Cane of Galway, Ireland who died
in the neighboring parish of St. James in 1848.
I would like to verify just how Martin Ansil, Marcelin, John and
Marguerite were related (siblings or cousins?) and whether or not Thomas
of Roscommon and M. Cane of Galway were related.
The CANNONs of Ascension Parish maintained a close tie with the
WOODS family from the 1850's up to the turn of the century. The WOODS
(James, Marie & Dwight) appear in the parish at the same time as the
CANNON's. Prior to being married to Martin Ansil Cannon, Marie Woods was
married to Marcelin CANNON. I would like to determine what was
Marcelin's fate. Did he die in Ireland or during or just after
migration and why?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. If anyone knows any online
sites for searching Catholic records in Ireland, PLEASE point me there!
Thanks!
