I am seeking any information on Hannah Cannon whom I believe was my gg
grandmother. I will separate my current information into 1. What I know as
facts and 2. What I believe based on circumstantial evidence.
1. What I know as facts:
a. She was born in either North Carolina or South Carolina before 1790.
b. I don't think that she was ever married, but she had at least 9
children, one of whom, I believe was my great grandfather, Almon Cannon.
c. She and Arthur Markham were tried in the Superior Court of Franklin
County, GA in the April Term 1802 on the charge of fornication and adultry.
d. She was listed as the head of household in the 1840 census of Sampson
County, NC. That record showed:
1 male over 15 but under 20 (probably James H. Cannon.)
1 female over 2o, but under 30 (probably Ann M. Cannon.)
1 female over 50, but under 60, Hannah.
e. She was listed as a member of the household of John W. Branch in the
1850 census of Chambers County, AL. That census gave the following info.

Nancy J. 8/12 F Ala
Note: Hannah and James H. Cannon and wife Mary E. Cannon drop out of the
records after this 1850 census.
2. What I believe based on circumstantial evidence.
a. I believe that the children of Hannah Cannon were (not necessarily all
inclusive:
1. Elijah Cannon, b. ca 1810 in Georgia.
2. Almon Cannon, b. June 13, 1812 in Georgia.
3. Everett Cannon, b. between 1813-1814 in NC.
4. Margaret Cannon, b. ca 1815 in Georgia
5. Ann M. Cannon, b. ca 1820 in NC.
6. Mary Cannon, b. ca 1822 in Georgia.
7. James H. Cannon, b. 1823 in NC.
8. Eliza Jane Cannon, b. bet. 1825-1828 in NC or Georgia.
9. George W. Cannon, b. ca 1832 in Georgia.
b. I believe that Hannah Cannon was the youngest daughter and possibly the
youngest child of James Cannon and Sarah Reed of Old Pendleton District, SC
and that her siblings were: Unity Cannon, b. ca 1770 who married Isaac
Herring; Clarissa Cannon, b. ca 1775, married Elijah Herring (brother of
Isaac); James Cannon, b. ca 1783, married Mary Capehart.
Any information that will fill out the blanks in this record will be
greatly appreciated.
