Hello everyone. I did so much enjoy all the invitations to Thanksgiving
Dinner. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all get together after such a dinner and
compare notes abut what our ancesters had to say??!!!!! (Well it doesn't hurt
to dream.)
I am still searching for my paternal great grandfather, James E Cannon. His
wife was Catherine Van Horn, and their children were Mary, John Timothy, (my
grandfather), Levina, and Margaret Telitha. I have their birth dates as Apr
1834 and May 1845; place of Birth WV. They lived in or near Glenville, WV. I
found them on the 1900 census and the 1890 census, but they do not appear in
anything in that area before that time. I thought perhaps they moved into
that area before those census were taken.
I have located a family in the 1850 census that looks suspeciously like it
could be them but the ages are in conflict. It gives their birthdays as only
one year apart, and there is a discrepancy in the years of birth. This couple
is located in Princess Anne County, VA. It gives his age as 22 and hers as 20
or 21 (ink is faded). That would make the dates of birth as 1828 and 1829,
about 6 and 14 years earlier than what I have. But I wonder if it could be the
same couple. They had one child in 1850 named Mary, same as the first child
of my ggrandparents.
Does anyone know anything about this James and Catharine Cannon in the 1850
census. I am wondering if it isn't unusual for two couples of the same first
and last names to have a first child of the same name. If I can located
something, this could be the lead I am looking for.
Thanks for any information and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. God
Bless. Gladys in WV
