I will ask, are you referring to Clarence Cannon and to his book "The Cannon
Family?" I myself have not done any research on my family genealogy or least
not anything serious. I want to but find it very daunting. Anyway, I'm
curious to know what it is exactly you are referring to. You can email
offline from the newsgroup if you want to.
Thanks
Perry Cannon of the South Carolina Newberry
County Cannon's from Antrim, Ireland via Maryland
I think. Father was born raised in Elsberry, MO part
of Lincoln County, MO.

Hi listers, I've been away for a few days and glad to be back at my
computer.
I don't know how this thread started exactly, but would like to add my
family's ideas on our origin.
My father, a CANNON, always told us we were Scots-Irish...our ancestor's
having gone from Scotland to Antrim, Ireland, and then here. I have no idea
how
he knew that..but there it is. He also told us that we were from the
Newberry
Co., SC CANNONs who had the Cannon's Creek named after them. Well, he died
a
few years before I started doing our research seriously, and I have
determined
that we are not from the Newberry Co., SC line. That is, unless there were
other extended branches that I as yet have not discovered. I think he was
using some material done by a very honorable man (I will not name him out of
respect as he is gone now)....but his research was full of many assumptions
and
very incorrect.
I have proven, though, that many of my ancestors were Presbyterian. Lots of
my lines that were Irish...don't know if they were Scots-Irish....were with
the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in KY.
I have wondered where my father got his ideas. We of the computer
generation, and especially the Rootsweb mailing lists, have such an
advantage over
earlier researchers. I know now that my line was somewhere in SC in the
late
1700's but then they just fade into the fog.....sometimes it gets
frustrating as
you all certainly know. My line includes some very unusual given names,
i.e.,
Perryman, Jemima, Naomi, and Israel. If any of you ever come across them,
please post to the list. I already know about the Israel in KY, I think his
father
was Robert (can't remember), but I am certain he is related to my
Israel...probably 1st cousins. My Israel is the one from Caldwell Co., who
married
Lucinda Lowery in 1816 and then Francis Clinton in 1822.
Sorry this is so long, thanks for bearing with me,
Janice (Cannon)
