Hello Wanda
On June 1, 1999 I ordered John Henry CANNON's Death Certificate
cost $15.00, from Hammond Health Department, of Hammond, Lake, IN.
to certify that John CANNON died on Dec. 5, 1898, Hammond, Lake, IN.
age 38 yrs. sex male, color, White, Married yes. cause of death
Tuberculosis, place of Burial Not Stated, date of burial Not stated,
Recorded date Dec. 6, 1898, Reg. No. 126
Occupation carpenter,
birthplace Indiana
fathers name: Richard CANNON
birthplace: Ohio
Mothers name: Melvina WRIGHT
birthplace: Kentucky
spouse not named; However her name was Mary Alice DeCAMP
about the only Cemetery in porter at time was supposedly Kosanke Funeral
Home still in existence: the person in charge of old records in some
mysterious vault some where is a nice lady by the name of Alice who's
phone number is 219-766-2225 she says she will look up his possible
burial after her vacation in a couple weeks, have been trying to get
them to look him up for about a year now, they are very busy but say
they will get to it asap after her vacation., I was also going to have
her check for Richard & Rachel's burial location as well, but have not
got past John's yet.
I have John's obit as well it was in the 1898 micro films,
however the paper was dated Thursday Dec 8, 1889, it was a weekly paper
and next paper was dated Dec 15 1898 so paper was incorrectly dated.
The Obit said John CANNON died last night at his home on Plumber
Avenue. The remains will be taken to Kouts tomorrow for internment,.
Deceased leaves a Family.
Not much of an Obit but does state he was to be buried in Kouts,
which should mean the Kosanke funeral home, but who knows ?
Hope this helps you. Do you live close to Kouts ? and the Kosanke
funeral home ? Perhaps someone visiting Alice after her vacation would
help to encourage her to look his location up, a bit more quickly.
Thank you
Don CANNON
