I believe we are talking about the same Samuel L. I have the
following on Samuel and his children:
Samuel L. Cannon b. 1805 or 1807 Miami Cty. Ohio, d. 5/24/1885 Dexter, Lane Cty, Oregon
(Buried at Mt. Vernon Cemetery) m. 9/12 or 17/1826 in Shelby Cty., Ohio to:
Susannah Eyler (Eiler) b. 1807 Montgomery?, Ohio, d. 1854 Iowa
Children:
1. Jacob E., b. 1833 Indiana
2. George Washington, b. 11/9/1835 Missouri, d. 1913 Red Bluff, Ca.,
m. Nancy Rouse Borphy
3. Sarah Johnson Cannon, b. 12/15/1837 Lake Cty, Ind., d. 12/19/1929 Eugene, Lane Cty,
Or.
m. Samuel Handsaker
4. Thomas B., b. 1842 Missouri
5. Abraham D., b. 1844 Missouri
From information I have received from another person I've been e-mailing
Samuel did have a brother named George Washington. Born abt. 1812 in Ohio.
I believe he is buried at New Pine Creek Cemetery, New Pine Creek, Lake County, Or.
from a listing on the Cannon list. I am planning to travel near there in about a
month and plan to visit to see what I can find out.
If you have it I would love more information on Abraham. Also, do you know
what the "L" stands for in Samuel's middle name?

I'm not sure if it is the same wagon train but my
great-great-grandmother
Sarah Johnson Cannon crossed over the plains in 1854. In a
newspaper
interview she said she came out with her father Samuel L. Cannon and four
brothers, George Washington, Jacob E., Thomas B. and Abraham D. She does
not mention any other Cannons but she does talk about a massacre. Following
is the portion of the interview concerning the wagon train:
"In 1854 when I was 16, our family started from our home in Clinton, Iowa
for
the Willamette valley, Robert Bourne was the captain of our wagon train.
We traveled with him till we reached Independence Rock, on the Sweetwater.
He turned south there to go to California and we joined the wagon train of
Winfield S. Eby. He was a brother of Colonel I.N. Eby. While we were
coming across the plains, in what is now Idaho we came upon the bodies of
six men lying in the road. The men had been killed by Indians the day
before. The Indians had killed the men and taken the women and children and
stock away with them. Later in the day they killed the children, and when
the mothers sought to interfer they killed the mothers also. They killed in
all 14 people."
Article was in the Oregon Journal Jan. 30, 1924.
I have not done alot of research on my Cannon line but I do know Samuel L.
was born
in Miami Cty, Ohio and his children were born in Indiana and
Missouri. I believe Samuel L.'s father was Abraham Cannon from internet
research but no documentation to prove it yet.
Hope this information is helpful.

Subject: [CANNON] Re: Cannon Family History
Hello Mary Lou
Pleasure to hear from you again. I am very pleased that you are
enjoying the information I sent you. Something to keep in mind almost
all CANNON's are Descendants of King Rory O'CANNON High King of
Ireland. The CANNON or O'CANNON Clan ruled from about 748 AD to 1250 AD
when King Hueh O'CANNON Stopped the CROMWELL invasion at great cost to
the CANNON Clan and Kingdom of TirConnell, He lost his life and many of
the Cannon's were slain that weekend the Family which was counted at
about 3500 members or so from best estimates. The English then put a
bounty on the O'CANNON name and began a great Slaughter of the family
that is when the powerful O'DONNELL Family moved in taking the thrown
and Kingdom away from the CANNON Clan, the CANNON Castle was on
LetterKinney Hill which means Hillside of the CANNON's. after the Bounty
and then the Famine hit, it reduced the CANNON Name to only 12 Families
left in our Ancestral homeland , those who could fled to Scotland, the
Isle of Man, Australia, America. and even England where at least Three
CANNON Family members married the Princes's and Princess's of England I
have there names as they are indirectly related to my lines. A great
many CANNON's when fleeing had to take ships from England to the
America's. And I know of several while waiting for ships in England had
children born in England before coming to America. So yes some CANNON's
are considered English, but their parents were Irish. I am Irish,
Scottish, English, French, American Indian, Swedish, and a couple others,
that I do not recall at the moment.
As far as Ebenezer goes, something I ran across on the net was
that Several CANNON Families were traveling together with others in a
wagon train from lower Ohio Like Shelby, & Miami Counties with some
CANNON's from Northern Kentucky to Northern Indiana and Chicago
Illinois, about the same time and probly in the same wagon train. when
they were attacked by Indians and Ebenezer may have been killed it that
so called Massacre, as My Abraham CANNON was Killed by indians at about
the Same time while traveling from Shelby County Ohio. I am related to
Both these CANNON lines of Ebenezer, and Abraham. there is speculation
that all the CANNON's who traveled from PA, DE, to OH,& KY then to IN.
are related and many were killed in that Massacre as many were also
taken Hostage and released under a treaty a couple years later. all
together I am related to four CANNON branches three of which came from
PA & DE thru Ohio to Indiana. As you know getting back before then or
finding out which wagon train they all came on is an mystery. If we
could find that they all may be brothers and cousins.
Enjoy the QUEST 1
