Last year I said I would like to invite my great grandfather, James Cannon
(1834-1914) and his wife, my great grandmother of Glenville, WV to Thanksgiving
dinner. That would be my choice again this year. I would love to ask him
about who his folks were and where they came from. There seems to be no records
regarding them. And I would like to know more about the wife of his only son,
John-my grandfather. She was suppose to be 1/2 Indian. I would love to know
about her Indian heritage, who was her Dad, where was he from.
I would also ask James alot of questions about his work as a "preacher". Was
he a circuit rider? If so, he must have had some interesting stories to
tell. That part of West Virginia was pretty remote and wild during the time my
father was a boy.
He no doubt had close calls with wild animals as he made his rounds.
I would ask him about his military records. He would have been a young man
at the time of the Civil War. Did he serve the North or the South?
May God continue to bless you with rest and peace, my Great-Grandfather and
Great-Grandmother! Gladys
