Hello,
As soon as I figure out how, I am going to switch to the regular list and not a Digest.
My William CANNON was born circa the 1720's., probably in Prince Edward Co., Virginia.
He was of the family which contains Simcock and Russell CANNON, I feel sure.
By 1760's he was living in South Carolina, first got land in Newberry Dist. and then
settled in Pendleton Dist. He is said to have been deceased by 1790. This is quite
likely since his widow, Anne, was enumerated then.
Anne could not have been the mother of our Eleanor CANNON; although deeds are extant from
William to Eleanor, his daughter. 200 year old gossip has it that she was left on his
doorstep by a prominent Charleston family, but I think this tale is a result of a family,
perhaps dewscended from 2nd. wife, Ane, who refused to consider that he may have been
married before.
Eleanor CANNON was b. ca 1740. By 1760's, she was already married to Samuel TAYLOR.
Sam was the son of James TAYLOR of Philadelphia and his wife, Hannah WILLIAMS. Hannah
later m. Van SWEARINGEN (which family also "forgot" that she had been previously
married.) I believe Hannah may have lived long enough to come to EDGEFIELD Co., SC, with
the SWEARINGEN family.
Major Samuel TAYLOR lived near Andrew PICKENS and fought with him in Rev. War. Sam signed
many Indian treaties with Pickens. His signature is on extant documents at Charles Towne
Landing here.
