I know that a certain Peter Cannon was involved in maritime trade with SC and
that a certain Nun was a descendant of the New Amsterdam (New York)
Cannon/Canon family. I am still trying to sort out some of the information.
Much of it is a verification process. I am pretty solid going back to
Andre(w) Canon bca 1651 of Staten and Long Island but not really sure if he
is a direct descendant of Andries Canon who, according to C.S Williams can be
found in Staten Island as earlt as 1656 because I have not seen the French
Church records he speaks of in his bokk written in 1912.
My Andrew is shown as being m. to Jean Peece, Picket or Pluck in various
records of the Dutch Reformed Church of New Amsterdam (New York) starting
abt. 1673. Then in Williams' book Andrew and Jean Cannon's oldest son is
Abraham bca 1668. Then the Deyo family information has information about
Andre Canon and his wife Jeanne Pluquet and the baptism of their son Abraham
in 1670. It appears that this occured in a church located in Manheim,
Germany or France but I have no way of verifying the record or I have not
been able to anyway.
The Deyo family history mentions the Crispells, DuBouis and Freer family
being there as well and that they immigrated to NY sometime between 1670 and
1675.
Andrew and Jean Pluk (Williams has her name as Pearce) had a son Jan (John)
Cannon who married a daughter of Piere LeGrand. Her name was Marie Legrand
and they can be found on records of the Dutch Church in New York.
Caution: I do not think that this Pierre LeGrand is the same Pierre LeGrand
who came to Virginia abt 1700 as he can be found on records of the Dutch
Church years prior to that date of import into Virginia. This Pierre was a
Huguenot as well and helped settle the town of Manikin in VA. The Pierre
LeGrand of NY and his wife were admitted to the Dutch Church in NY April 30,
1685. I belive the VA Piere LeGrand arrived abt 1700.
LeGrand Cannon is a popular name amongst the New York family and it does
appear common for them to use family names as first and middle names. I will
post what I believe to be my line back to Andrew Canon in the near future.
