I have no known connection to this Cannon family.
Joe,
My suggestion would be, first - to locate and obtain copies of the death certificates of
your maternal grandparents, Bill and Jimmie Myrtle Cummings. Because you know their exact
dates of death, there should be no problem in your getting copies of those. Your
grandmother's should tell you whether or not her mother's maiden name was Spivey,
and if it is, you should be easily able to move backward through census records at least
to about 1850 or so.
My second suggestion would be to work backward through the census records to find the
names and birth years of the other family members. I cannot find them all for your
Cannon/Cummings connection, but here are the ones I have been able to locate through
online census subscriptions:

AL
Burris, son; Mar 1897, age 3; born AL
Oscar, son; Feb 1898, age 1; born AL
The next earlier census would be 1880. Please look for this family in that year's
census as Wiley Cannon, enumerated in Tallapoosa County and in the 1870 census as Willey
Cannon.
Good luck!

Subject: [CANNON] Cannon-Spivey-Cummings
I am new to genealogy and need some help on how I should proceed on two
issues:
--------------------------------------------
My maternal grandparents are:
William ("Bill") Lloyd/Loyed Cummings
Born: October 07 1904 in Coosa County, AL
Died: June 18, 1971 in Roanoke, VA
Jimmie Myrtle Cannon Cummings
Born: August 27, 1906
SSN: GA
Died: December 8, 1991 in Roanoke, VA
However, I have NOT been able to locate any record of their marriage.
---------------------------------------------
My family has a tradition that Jimmie Cannon's mother was:
Maggie Belle Spivey
I have found an interesting reference to such a person in the genealogy
provided by "CAROL C-H" that reads (in part):
Wiley Andrew Jackson Cannon
b: May.26.1868 in Chattahoochee county, GA
+Maggie Belle Spivey
This MIGHT be the right connection. Wiley A.J. Cannon would have been 38
years old in 1906 when my grandmother was born. Another family tradition is
that my grandmother was one of the last of a large number of children in her
family.
---------------------------------------------
All information and advice are welcomed!!!
